Most pregnancy calculators are based on single pregnancies and may not be accurate for twins. We have developed a set of evidence-based tools specific to twin pregnancies. These tools are used in our clinic and are available here for families and care providers.

Guidelines & research
We have published research and developed evidence-based guidelines for twin pregnancies to help guide practice.
When to refer:
Twin pregnancies – We prefer to see patients with twin pregnancies at the time of the nuchal translucency scan, between 11 and 13 weeks. Referring at this point allows us to confirm chorionicity (whether the twins share one placenta or have separate placentas) while it can still be established reliably on ultrasound.
Triplet and higher-order pregnancies – Please refer as early as you can, ideally by around 10 weeks. Early referral gives the family time to consider multifetal pregnancy reduction (a procedure that reduces the number of fetuses in order to lower the risks to the mother and to the remaining babies) and to reach a decision without being rushed. The option narrows as the pregnancy advances, so a late referral can limit what is available to them.
What if the pregnancy is already further along? Refer anyway. We accept referrals at any gestational age, and we would rather see a patient late than not at all.
